Almanzor made history as Triptych did a few years ago

17 October 2016

It was at Ascot on Saturday 15 October: Almanzor posted an astonishing performance to win the Group 1 Qipco Champion Stakes ahead of Group 1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Found. The Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club winner in the care of handler Jean-Claude Rouget notched the exceptional double Qipco Irish Champion Stakes (Gr.1 – Leopardstown, Irland) and Qipco Champion Stakes (Gr.1 – Ascot, England), as only a few champions did in the past: New Approach in 2008, Piludski in 1997, Indian Skimmer in 1988 and Triptych in 1987. This 2014 ARQANA August Yearling Sale graduate consigned by breeder Haras d'Etreham and son of French-based Wooton Bassett is crown best three-year-old in Europe in 2016. His tally is rich of five successive Group wins out of eight starts, including three at the highest level.
