The fastest miler in the world star of Equidia

16 March 2016

Bred by the famous Wertheimer & Frère, Solow (Singspiel x High Maintenance) was born in 2010 and entrusted as a yearling to Freddy Head, ex-crack jockey who became a highly successful trainer.

Solow came back in much improved fettle when gelded and registered two win in a row over the distance of 2,000 and 2,100 meters, without being very convincing though. Hailing from a family of long-distance runners, the beautiful grey found in opposite his eases over the mile and added first Groups success to his tally in the Prix Quincey and Prix Daniel Wildenstein, both won in 2014.

Over the 2015 season, famous jockey Maxime Guyon was on the saddle and the couple boasted six wins out of six starts, including no less than five Groups 1. Contender of the Gr.1 Dubaï Turf, Solow showed a devastating turn of foot and got ahead of the excellent The Grey Gatsby. He then defeated in tremendous style the crack Cirrus des Aigles in the Prix d'Ispahan (Gr. 1) before getting the better of worldwide best-miler Able Friend on the occasion of the Gr.1 Queen Anne Stakes. Last but not least, he came first in both prestigious Sussex Stakes and Queen Elisabeth II Stakes (Grs.1). As the legend Solow was born, he was crowned as the best miler in the world.

Relive the excellent first place of Solow in the Dubaï Turf here and in the Sussex Stakes here.
