With a tally rich of 44 Groups 1, four Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and four Cravaches d'Or, the crack jockey Thierry Jarnet announced on February 24, 2017 his desire to hang up his boots after a stellar thirty-year-long career.

Thierry Jarnet started at the French AFASEC Horseracing School aged 14 and progressively learned his trade from handlers Carlos Lerner, Alain de Royer-Dupré, Yann Porzier for whom he won his first Group, as well as Antonio Spanu, for whom he rode his first G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in the saddle of Zartota.

In 1990, he was partnered to the André Fabre-trained Subotica to win the Listed Prix Isonomy. The start of a nine-year collaboration with the master trainer, highlighted by no less than 23 Group 1 success. Thierry Jarnet and Subotica will also be the winner of the G1s Grand Prix de Paris, Prix de Ganay and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The jockey grabbed a second Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 1994 on Carnegie and wrote a few years after one of the finest page in the racing history with the Christiane Head-Maarek-trained Trêve.

In 2013, Trêve stormed home to offer to her rider Thierry Jarnet his first G1 Prix de Diane, a few months before recording a smashing win in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1). A back-to-back win in the mythical race was recorded in 2014 before going for an unparalleled third victory in 2015. Up against exceptional horses once again, she finished a very honourable fourth with a huge crowd's encouragements.
